About This Game
Hollow Knight is a 2D action-adventure game for the Nintendo Switch, released on the system in June 2018. Set in the fallen underground kingdom of Hallownest, players control a small silent warrior known as the Knight. The kingdom’s insect inhabitants have been corrupted by a spreading infection, and the Knight descends into the ruins to uncover what happened.
The game follows the Metroidvania structure, with a large interconnected map that opens up as new movement abilities are found, such as dashing, wall-climbing, and double-jumping. Combat centers on the Knight’s nail for melee strikes, supplemented by spells powered by collected soul and a charm system that allows mixing passive effects. Defeated enemies drop Geo, the game’s currency, used to buy maps, upgrades, and keys from merchants. Boss encounters guard key areas and abilities, and death drops the player’s Geo at the spot where they fell until it is recovered.
