Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a 2D platformer for the Nintendo Switch, released in May 2018. The Snowmads, an invading band of arctic creatures, freeze over Donkey Kong Island on the Kongs’ birthday and scatter the banana hoard. Donkey Kong sets out with Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky to take the island back across six themed worlds.
Levels mix precise platforming with mine cart rides, rocket barrel flights, and underwater swimming sections. Each Kong partner brings a distinct ability, such as Diddy’s jetpack hover, Dixie’s helicopter spin, and Cranky’s cane bounce, and animal buddies like Rambi the rhino add extra firepower. Collectibles include the K-O-N-G letters and hidden puzzle pieces in every stage. The Switch version adds Funky Kong as a playable character with extra health and easier traversal for a more relaxed run.
