About This Game
Persona 5 Royal is a role-playing game combining turn-based JRPG combat with a life simulation structure. The Nintendo Switch version was released on October 21, 2022. Players control Joker, a transfer student in Tokyo who leads the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a group that enters the cognitive world known as the Metaverse to steal the corrupted hearts of abusive adults and force them to confess. The game runs on a calendar system across one school year, with Palace deadlines requiring careful time management.
Core systems include hand-crafted story dungeons called Palaces, the optional Mementos dungeon, Confidants (ranked social bonds that grant gameplay perks), Persona fusion in the Velvet Room, weakness-exploiting combat with Baton Pass, and team-wide All-Out Attacks. The Royal version adds a playable third semester in January with a new Palace, new characters Kasumi Yoshizawa and Takuto Maruki, the Kichijoji district, a customizable Thieves Den hideout, and various quality-of-life improvements.
