About This Game
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is a party sports game, released on November 5, 2019. Characters from the Mario and Sonic series meet in Tokyo to compete across more than 30 Olympic events, and in the story mode Mario, Sonic and their friends are pulled into a retro game world based on the Tokyo 1964 Olympics by Bowser and Dr. Eggman.
Events cover athletics, swimming, gymnastics, boxing and football, together with the sports that were new in Tokyo: skateboarding, karate, sport climbing and surfing. Alongside the 3D events there are 2D events played with retro-style sprites, and Dream Events that bend the rules with items and special courses. Matches support local play for up to four players and online play for up to eight, with motion controls available for many events using a single Joy-Con.
